Baytown Technology and Engineering Complex

Founded in 1919, today the ExxonMobil Baytown Complex on the Texas Gulf Coast is one of the largest integrated and most technologically advanced refining and petrochemical complexes in the world. The Baytown Technology & Engineering Complex has been on-site since the 1920s and has produced innovative technology, such as the lithium-ion battery separator film and numerous plastics light-weighting technologies that help make our vehicles more fuel-efficient.

ExxonMobil’s research facility in Clinton, NJ is a key center of innovation that supports the company’s broad research and development programs focused on developing scalable energy solutions to meet global demand while minimizing environmental impacts and mitigating the risk of climate change. The newly expanded facility includes an engine testing center and a lubricant research and development blend plant.

ExxonMobil Research Qatar was established as an organization to conduct research in areas of common interest to the State of Qatar and ExxonMobil. Currently, scientists and researchers are progressing a number of projects in the areas of environmental management, water reuse, LNG safety and coastal geology.

Sarnia Technology Applications and Research

Imperial Oil’s Sarnia research center is developing new and improved products and processes. These include testing biofuels to confirm they will meet the rigors of the Canadian climate and improving hydroprocessing technologies to maximize on-road ultra-low-sulphur diesel production. The center also provides advanced technical support for ExxonMobil and its affiliates’ lubricants and specialties business.

Shanghai Technology Center

Shanghai is home to one of ExxonMobil’s largest customer-facing technology centers. Our Shanghai facility develops and delivers innovative solutions to our customers throughout China and Asia Pacific. Located in the Minhang District near the Jiao Tong University and East China Normal University, our state-of-the-art laboratories lead our product application and testing process to improve polymers, oils and other lubricants.
